The first step in finding the right tutor for your child is to explore school-based tutoring, home-based tutoring, and tutoring centers.

School-based Tutoring

Many public and private schools have staff tutors or specifically-trained school district employees, who are available during school hours. Many schools also host volunteer tutoring programs. The advantage to this type of tutoring is that it is often free for enrolled students, and it takes place at the school. On the other hand, volunteer tutoring may lack consistency, and some tutors may not have adequate training.

Home-based Tutoring

Home-based tutoring involves a tutor coming to your home to tutor your child. Online tutoring is also a possible and is generally provided by a tutoring agency. Many parents prefer this option because they can be present to supervise the tutoring. Costs will vary depending upon the tutor, whether they come from a tutoring agency, and their level of experience. This option may be more informal and flexible, which is ideal for busy families and students who only require periodic help.

Tutoring Centers

Tutoring agencies or centers are privately owned businesses that specialize in providing tutoring. Tutoring centers are staffed by professionally trained tutors who provide tutoring at the center itself, or travel to the homes of students to provide home-based tutoring. This can certainly be the priciest option, but it is definitely the most reliable.
